The "Get into Golf" National Skills Challenge has been developed for young golfers and is designed to be challenging at all levels, but above all it is intended to be....fun!!
We thoroughly recommend that all of our Get into Golf Centres and Golf for all Clubs use it to stimulate skill and competition development amongst their under 19 players. We use a version modified for use in schools and colleges called the Hampshire Golf Skills Challenge - please use this link for details.
What is it?
The National Skills Challenge is a series of 10 activities which aim to improve junior golf and make practicing more fun. If a golf club runs 2 annual Official Challenge events, the players scores can then be inputted on the national online Leader board. Alternatively, golf clubs may just use the activities as part of their coaching programme.
The Skills Challenge covers 5 golfing disciplines
- Putting
- Chipping
- Pitching
- Bunker Play
- Full Swing
Each discipline has 2 Challenges, making 10 in total.

It is hoped that these challenges will encourage junior players to improve their golf, increase their enjoyment of the game and encourage them to practice the skills required to complete each test.
How does it work?
Both boys and girls under the age of 18 (as of 1st January that year) can take part in the Rookie and Tour Challenges and will be split into 2 further age groups:
- ROOKIE - 8 years and under and 9 to 11 years
- TOUR - 12 to 14 years and 15 to 17 years
Golf clubs are asked to run Challenge events for their players within the 2 given dates or alternatively just utilise the activities within their coaching programme.
Players that have completed Official Challenge events can then have their scores inputted on the national online Leader board and will be eligible to qualify for the Regional and National Finals. View qualification information and regions here.
