East Horton Development Tour event
The Easter school holidays saw the start of the Hampshire Golf Partnership Development Tour. A total of 28 young golfers from 6 to 16 years of age tee'd up at East Horton to play in the 18 hole, 9 hole and 6 hole competitions. Organised by Hampshire Golf Partnership Development Tour Lead Kevin Maris, ably assisted by HGP Volunteers Brian Osborne and Mark Baxter, good scoring followed and great fun was had by all! Southampton Sport Relief 2012 a big hit!
March each year sees thousands of good people putting on their sports kits and doing their bit to raise money for Sport Relief. Supporting such a worthwhile cause was aided by warm sunshine in Southampton, where the runners not only enjoyed their trips round the course but also the extra leisure and sports activities that were situated in Guildhall Square. Southwick Park Golf Club is staging a series of ‘FREE’ Taster Sessions to encourage people under the age of 18 to ‘Get into Golf’ Under the expert guidance of Club Professional (and 2011 Hampshire PGA Captain) Eddy Rawlings and Teaching Professional Mark Dowdell, everyone will be given the basic fundamentals of the golf swing, learn the techniques for driving, chipping, pitching and bunker shots and be shown how to - and maybe sink that monster putt! Hampshire Golf Partnership's (HGP) Development Tour to get more youngsters into golf. It is quite right that those youngsters who are really good at golf (the "elite" players) get plenty of encouragement to follow their dreams to be the best.
