I started at South Winchester in the summer of 1993 and was instrumental in the setting up of the Club when it opened in December that year. From the outset the Club has aimed to be an active, welcoming yet relaxed one with all players treated equally; South Winchester being one of the first Clubs to have regular club competitions open to both men and ladies.
Before starting at South Winchester, I was awarded a golf scholarship in North Carolina and as an amateur I represented Hampshire and won a number of events including the Prince of Wales trophy at Woburn and finishing 24thand top Amateur in the Portuguese Open. Turning Professional I secured my European tour card and won the Hampshire Open.
I still enjoy competing in the region, winning four events so far this year and making the cut finishing top 40 in the National PGA championship at the Oxfordshire.
I believe all players need to understand what they are doing first before they can improve. Yes players have their own individual style but attention to the address position and take away cannot be underestimated.
The quality and the way in which you work on your game must be geared towards making you into a better tournament player not just a better practiser.
